“The layered images function as a kind of inverted Rorschach test. Where projective psychology presents abstraction and asks the viewer to map lived experience onto an indeterminate form, Scharff reverses the operation, casting a deeply personal, durational abstraction over the encountered world. The site is perceived through the magnetic image rather than the other way around; the filter precedes and conditions the view. Formed over exposures lasting two to three hours, each resulting photograph is entirely singular and irreplicable. What registers is not spectacle but duration: the body remaining in place while light accumulates beyond the threshold of immediate perception.” - excerpt from essay about this series by Mila Rae Mancuso
